Existing projects that transition to Gold Standard for the Global Goals can also choose to cancel their issued VERs during an eligible time period and issue Renewable Energy Labels instead.

These projects will have to be Registered under an eligible Renewable Energy Product Standard, such as the International renewable energy certificates (I-RECs) Standard.  Initially, the Gold Standard Renewable Energy Label is limited to the I-RECs Standard, which applies to projects outside of Europe and the United States.  SustainCERT recommends that you check any I-REC restrictions on issuance (e.g., regarding I-REC lifecycles and maximum vintages they accept).
